Vestibular Physiotherapy  

Vestibular physiotherapy is designed to help treat the root causes of dizziness, poor balance and/or lack of spatial awareness. It is mainly an exercise-based treatment method aimed to help retrain the inner systems of the body.

Vestibular physiotherapy can help with conditions such as: 

  • concussion 
  • whiplash 
  • certain forms of vertigo (ex: BPPV, cervicogenic vertigo) 
  • Meniere's disease 
  • post-concussion syndrome*(PCS) 

* PCS is an ongoing condition which can follow an initial head trauma. It can present as any one, or combination of the following symptoms: dizziness, nausea, headaches, light or noise sensitivity, poor balance, brain fog, poor concentration or memory, difficulty with multitasking, poor emotional control, irritability, interrupted or difficulty with sleep, restlessness, and fatigue.

Your individualized treatment plan will be co-developed by you and your physiotherapist after an extensive physical exam. The treatment plan often includes exercises that focus on eye coordination and stability, neck control, balance and coordination and reaction time.
